Shalabia Ibrahim

Shalabia Ibrahim was born in Monufia, Egypt, in 1944. Self-taught, she works predominantly in watercolour, building images from minimal lines and spaces of colour shaped by the rural landscape of her childhood. Women are the protagonists of her canvases, standing as representatives of the earth, and her work moves through themes of motherhood, reproduction and renewal. She has exhibited across Egypt, Syria, the Gulf and Europe since 1970.
